Now it is back to normal after all the excitement over the Christmas and new year period and time to get on with some work towards reaching my goals.

I do know that Paull Hamilton got an all in one knife and fork to help him save time, I got a HD camcorder to make some video clips and stuff to help me with my video marketing.

So what have I been up to in the mean time?

I have integrated a customer registration form into my one time offer, this will allow me to follow up with customers with a different autoresponder sequence – a list of buyers is GOLD!  People that don’t purchase the oto will be followed up with emails written by the one and only Frank Kern (thanks to my Mass Control Monthly membership )

More planning – remember, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

My short term goals to achieve are:

• Drive 100 targeted visitors a day to my blog.
• Increase the page rank of my blog from PR1 to PR2.
• Post to my blog at least twice a week with one post targeted to a specific key phrase.
• Add the follow up series of emails, mentioned above, to my autoresponder.
• Start promoting the hell outta my squeeze page.
• Cover my Aweber cost twice over (already got a check for $50.16 this month)

My longer term goals are:

• Own a responsive 3000 strong mailing list in 90 days.
• Have an autopilot traffic stream in place.
• Create my own product.
• Quit my J.O.B

How to keep on top of being on top.

There are two important tools I use for this, both from Google.

The first is Google alerts, I have subscribed to my own name for obvious reasons but also any keywords or key phrases that are relevant to my blog and landing pages.  Google emails you an update each time a new web page is indexed that matches your alert.  You can also setup blog alerts using the Google blog search and add these to your alerts in exactly the same way.

The second tool is Google reader, I use this to read all of the rss feeds of all of the blogs I just so happen to be subscribed to, I have organised the feeds in to many different folders, such as Alex Jeffrey’s student blogs, do-follow blogs, blogs with CommentLuv installed, plus others.  You are then able to click on any folder, and in list view, can easily see the blog post titles and view anything that interests you or catches your eye.  (Make a note of the titles that grab your attention and start a swipe file).

Chelsea Filan, another student of Alex Jeffreys has written an excellent blog post all about writers block.

I am sure we have all been there, staring at that blank page, not knowing what the hell to write.

Here is a great tip that I learned from a speed writing course – Don’t stare at the blank page!

“What?” – I hear you say.

Simply switched your monitor off and start typing.  Try it! After you have finished typing switch your monitor back on and see what you have written.  Your first draft is never going to be perfect – hell, mine are far from perfect even after the tenth edit!

Draw from your experiences, if you have achieved something, write about it, and if you happen to be involved in the Alex Jeffreys coaching program I have a feeling you will be achieving great things.

Just get it going.

Is it that you have yet to get a web site set up, or maybe you don’t have an auto responder account, maybe you don’t yet have a squeeze page capturing leads.

After taking some time to analyse my business I have come to realize that the two factors holding me back are:

1. I am a busy fool.

2. I think I cannot write.

I spend far to much time just browsing the Internet and checking email, fooling myself into thinking that I am getting work done.

How much money does being a busy fool actually bring you…

Yep, you’ve got it, nothing.

I plan to set aside certain ‘time chunks’ for certain tasks.  My most productive task coming in the first ‘time chunk’ of each day.  Email will get checked last!

I can write, I just need to start believing in myself a bit more.  If there is a writing task that I need to complete and can’t do it myself then I will look at outsourcing the task to someone that can do it and deliver it to me in a timely manner.

I am going to spend the next 2 days focusing on nothing but my yearly business plan, I am going to break this yearly plan down into four ninety day outlines, split the first ninety day outline down in to 3 one monthly plans, split these down into weekly plans and finally my weekly plans into daily tasks and targets.

Preparation + Opportunity = Success

I suggest you take some time to spend on your business plan, work out what lifestyle and dreams you really want to achieve.

3. Not to believe the hype

The magic button does not exist.  There is so much hype in the Internet Marketing niche, highlighted by Alex Jeffrey’s The Guru’s Dream, so I am now going to forget the hype, listen to only a few key gurus including Rich Schefren, Mark Joyner, Mike Filsaime, Michael Cheney and of course Alex Jeffreys.

4. To fail forward fast

There is always going to be times when things don’t work out according to plan but I am not going to fail by not taking action.  If I don’t quite succeed the first time then I will learn by my mistakes, share them with you here, dust myself off and implement another method to achieve my goal.

This week marked a new change in Google Adwords which will be great news to all of us.

Google have actually done something that they said they would never do and it probably spells the end for services like Wordtracker.

Here’s a brief overview…

If you have ever used Google Adwords you will know that they always represented search volume for a keyword with a green bar graph.

Earlier this week they did away with that and started to to show the actual search volume for keywords.

Wordtracker keyword volumes have sometimes been accused of being inaccurate because they make predictions from only 2% – 3% of actual search activity.

Now that Google has made this change, you will be able to get a much more accurate search volume.

Michael: Well I asked how I could most help them. You know – I’ve been online since 1995 and make a lot of money online but I was keen to tap into their BIGGEST challenges and needs. So I asked them what sort of information they wanted to learn. What style of learning they preferred and how they wanted this information to be delivered. I was totally blown away by the responses – I got 1489 people completing the survey!

Martin: So what did they say?

Michael: There some big common themes that kept coming up as I looked at the responses and all the comments. It’s time to start sending your emails!

I have been using ViralURL since launch day and I will share my experiences with you now.

The first thing you have to enter is the email subject line. You can personalize both the subject line and the email itself.

Everything is about testing and tracking.

I have tried emailing with the name of the recipient at the end of the email, in the middle and at the beginning. I have gotten best results from using the recipients name at the beginning. I suggest you try them all and see what results you get. If your subject line is long, personalize it at the beginning otherwise the recipients name may be cut off when displayed in the their email client.

Use subject lines that are compelling and intriguing. Your subject line should be as short as possible. It has been proven that emails with subject lines less than 50 characters get a higher click through rate.

You should keep an email subject line swipe file. Later today, go look through your emails, see which subject lines grab your attention. Make a note of them. If they grab yours, they will grab others attention too.

Before writing the actual body of your email, I will quickly touch on where you should and should not be sending your prospective subscribers to.

You should NOT send people directly to an affiliate site.

You must send them to your own squeeze page.

Get these random prospects on YOUR list.

If you need squeeze pages that convert at 70%, check out Affiliate Cash Secrets.

You can then send follow up emails time and time again.

The body copy of your email should be personalized with the recipients name, you can also personalize the copy, but don’t over do it.

Keep your body copy short, highlight the benefits of what you are selling, be it a product or your newsletter. Create curiosity with your copy, and your click through rate will be through the roof.

Your one and only aim is to get the recipient to click on that link, let the squeeze page actually do the selling (or should that be ‘capture the email address’?!).

Break up your copy into short paragraphs, no more than one or two sentences long. Insert your link, that you want clicked on, after each paragraph.

Use the PS to highlight the benefit one last time and include your link.

Continuously track and test your email subject line and body copy. If you don’t track your results, you won’t know what works for you and what doesn’t.
